Job Description
The FTTH Technician installs, maintains and troubleshoots fibre optic and wireless network infrastructure across multiple sites. Responsibilities include splicing fibre, configuring network equipment, diagnosing link faults and ensuring safety compliance while maintaining accurate records. The role requires travel to assigned locations and close coordination with the operations team.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or a related technical field (minimum two‑year program)
- • Minimum 1 year of hands‑on experience installing and maintaining fibre‑optic networks
- • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics
- • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
- • Commitment to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Pull, terminate and fusion splice fibre on campus routes and along utility poles
- • Install, provision and troubleshoot ONTs and EPON/GPON OLTs
- • Configure MikroTik RouterOS settings including bridges, VLANs, DHCP, hotspot and routing
- • Deploy and align wireless access points and routers for campus and hostel coverage
- • Diagnose link faults using optical power meters and OTDR and restore service
- • Maintain accurate records of deployed and reclaimed equipment, including serial and MAC addresses
- • Report site status, traffic trends and user growth to supervisors
- • Observe and enforce safety standards, using reflectors and protective gear
- • Travel to and relocate among sites such as Nakuru, Eldoret, Kericho, Kisii and Bungoma as required
