Job Description
The Farm Manager will oversee operations across two farms in Kabati and Makuyu, focusing on Black Soldier Fly (BSF) production and organic waste bioconversion. Responsibilities include managing the full production cycle, ensuring optimal environmental conditions, supervising staff, maintaining bio‑security and hygiene standards, and analysing production data to meet business targets. The role also involves procurement, inventory control, product quality checks and continuous improvement of farming techniques.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Entomology, Animal Science, Biological Sciences or related field
- • 3–6 years relevant experience, preferably in BSF or insect farming and agricultural production
- • Practical knowledge of BSF biology, lifecycle and farm‑level bioconversion systems
- • Experience managing production teams and overseeing farm operations
- • Knowledge of organic waste/feedstock management and bio‑security practices
- • Ability to maintain production records and analyse operational data
- • Experience in quality control, hygiene and bio‑security is an advantage
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Oversee day‑to‑day operations of both farms in Kabati and Makuyu
- • Manage the complete BSF production cycle: breeding, egg collection, larval rearing and harvesting
- • Monitor temperature, humidity, lighting and other environmental parameters
- • Source, receive and process organic waste/feedstock for production
- • Ensure consistent feedstock availability and implement contamination‑prevention measures
- • Maintain high standards of bio‑security, hygiene and sanitation
- • Conduct quality checks on BSF products including eggs, larvae and frass
- • Supervise, train and coordinate farm technicians and other employees
- • Allocate duties, monitor staff performance and productivity
- • Manage procurement of raw materials and farm inputs
- • Track inventory levels and usage, coordinating distribution of finished products
- • Keep accurate production and operational records
- • Analyse production data, yields and mortality rates to identify improvement areas
- • Resolve production challenges and operational delays
- • Collaborate with management to achieve production targets and KPIs
- • Support budgeting, cost forecasting and efficiency initiatives
- • Research and implement improved BSF farming techniques and feed formulations
