Job Description
The General Manager – Agricultural Economics will lead economic planning, financial analysis and commercial performance for agricultural operations, covering coffee, avocado, livestock and other value chains. Responsibilities include budgeting, market research, developing business cases and advising senior management on emerging trends.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Economics, Agriculture or related field
- • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in agricultural economics, agribusiness or commercial farming, including leadership responsibility
- • Practical experience in coffee, horticulture, avocado or livestock operations
- • Strong expertise in budgeting, financial modelling, forecasting, cost analysis and performance management
- • In‑depth knowledge of agricultural markets, value chains and commercial farm management
- • Familiarity with emerging trends and technologies such as BSF farming, regenerative and climate‑smart agriculture, precision farming, agroforestry and waste valorisation
- • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis/reporting tools
- • Excellent leadership, communication, analytical and stakeholder‑management skills

Responsibilities
- • Lead planning, monitoring and evaluation of agricultural operations and commercial performance
- • Analyse coffee, avocado, livestock and other value chains to identify profitability and growth opportunities
- • Develop and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, financial models and long‑term business plans
- • Monitor production costs, input prices, revenues, margins and key operational indicators, recommending corrective actions
- • Conduct market research on commodity prices, consumer trends, export markets and competitors
- • Develop business cases and investment proposals for agritourism, regenerative agriculture and value‑addition projects
- • Advise management on emerging agricultural trends and technologies such as BSF farming, precision agriculture and agroforestry
- • Work closely with Farm Managers to improve productivity, resource utilisation and cost efficiency
- • Produce management dashboards and timely economic, financial and operational reports for senior management
- • Identify and assess opportunities to increase revenue, reduce costs and improve return on investment
- • Ensure compliance with agricultural, environmental and statutory requirements
- • Lead, mentor and develop staff while promoting accountability and continuous improvement
