Job Description
The Pharmaceutical Technologist is responsible for accurate dispensing of medicines, maintaining inventory records and ensuring compliance with pharmacy standards. The role also involves patient counseling, preparation of extemporaneous preparations and supporting clinical staff.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution
- • Valid practising licence from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB)
- • Minimum 1 year experience in a busy healthcare facility
- • Computer literacy and familiarity with pharmacy/HMIS systems (preferred)
- • Good understanding of pharmaceutical inventory management and stock control
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Receive, verify and dispense prescriptions accurately according to standards
- • Conduct regular stock‑taking and reconcile physical inventory with system records
- • Maintain up‑to‑date stock records, monitor levels and initiate timely requisitions
- • Identify and manage slow‑moving, expired or damaged medicines
- • Compound extemporaneous preparations and prepare intravenous medications
- • Counsel patients on medication usage, dosage, adherence and side effects
- • Deliver discharge medications to wards and document appropriately
- • Communicate out‑of‑stock items to prescribers and recommend alternatives
- • Ensure proper storage, handling and dispensing in compliance with safety regulations
- • Participate in periodic inventory counts and investigate discrepancies
- • Document medication errors, adverse events and patient complaints
