Job Description

The Assistant Conservation Officer supports the implementation of Suyian Conservancy’s wildlife and ecological monitoring programmes, combining field work with technical data management. Responsibilities include conducting camera‑trap surveys, wildlife transects, telemetry tracking, and ensuring accurate collection and curation of ecological data. The role also assists with community conservation initiatives and the use of conservation technology platforms. Candidates should have a relevant degree and practical experience in wildlife conservation.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s degree, BSc or HND in wildlife conservation, ecology or a related environmental science field.
  • • At least 1–2 years of practical experience in wildlife or ecological conservation.
  • • Ability to work remotely while coordinating field activities.
  • • Strong data collection, management and analysis skills.
  • • Proficiency with conservation technology and camera‑trap equipment.
  • • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • • Support implementation of the Conservancy’s conservation strategy, wildlife monitoring and ecological monitoring activities.
  • • Assist in planning and conducting wildlife monitoring, including camera trapping, transect surveys, telemetry tracking of collared species, and other ecological surveys.
  • • Collect, manage, and ensure accurate entry and storage of ecological data.
  • • Support the use and management of conservation technology platforms.
  • • Perform camera‑trap image annotation and data curation.
  • • Participate in community conservation initiatives in liaison with the Conservation Officer.
