Job Description
The Hydrology Advisor provides expert technical guidance on water resources and climate‑change adaptation, delivering high‑quality analyses and designs for infrastructure projects across the Horn of Africa. The role involves hydrological modeling, risk assessment, and supporting decision‑making systems while ensuring compliance with UNOPS standards. The advisor also contributes to capacity building, research, and knowledge sharing within the region.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Master’s degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Hydro‑climatology, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline (Ph.D. preferred)
- • At least 7 years of relevant experience in hydrological modeling, climate‑change impact assessment, and real‑time drought/flood forecasting
- • Proven experience in risk assessment of water systems and climate‑resilient infrastructure design
- • Experience in teaching, applied research, or capacity‑building within the hydrological engineering sector
- • Record of publications in peer‑reviewed journals or conference proceedings
- • Fluent English proficiency

- • Provide specialist technical advice and strategic design support for hydrology, water resources, and climate‑change adaptation projects
- • Guide implementation of climate‑resilient methodologies to ensure infrastructure withstands extreme weather and long‑term climate shifts
- • Support decision‑support systems for equitable water allocation across ecosystem, agricultural, domestic, and energy needs
- • Ensure technical designs comply with international quality standards and UNOPS guidelines
- • Lead data collection, field verification, and hydro‑meteorological modeling activities
- • Produce accurate and timely technical reports, risk logs, and progress updates
