Job Description
The Agronomist will provide technical support to urban farming initiatives, advising on site layouts, soil health, crop selection and sustainable practices. The role includes training community groups, managing nursery operations and ensuring effective water and pest management for productive, low‑cost urban agriculture.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BSc/HND) in Agronomy, Agriculture or a related field (Diploma acceptable)
- • Minimum 10 years experience in agronomy or urban farming
- • Ability to train and work with women, youth and community groups
- • Fluency in English and Kiswahili with basic computer skills for reporting
- • Self‑motivated, reliable and comfortable working in field settings in Nairobi

Responsibilities
- • Assess urban farming sites and recommend suitable layouts such as kitchen gardens, raised beds and vertical systems
- • Advise on soil preparation, fertility management and composting using organic inputs
- • Recommend appropriate crops, varieties, planting calendars and spacing for urban environments
- • Support nursery management and seedling production activities
- • Guide participants on water‑efficient irrigation and overall water management
- • Provide integrated pest and disease management advice using low‑cost, safe methods
- • Train women, youth and community groups on best‑practice urban agriculture techniques
