Job Description

The Assistant Director – Access to Information provides guidance on reviewing and determining applications related to the right of access to information, designs proactive disclosure programmes, and leads investigations of violations. The role also supports public entities in complying with the Access to Information Act and monitors Kenya’s adherence to international treaty obligations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc/HND) or higher (MBA/MSc/MA) and relevant professional certificate.
  • • Minimum 4 years of experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • • Provide guidance in reviewing and determining applications on violations of the right of access to information.
  • • Design and develop programmes to facilitate proactive disclosure of information held by public and private entities.
  • • Initiate and facilitate mechanisms for hearing and determining access‑to‑information applications.
  • • Request, receive and evaluate reports from public entities on implementation of the Access to Information Act.
  • • Develop and implement public sensitisation and awareness programmes on access to information.
  • • Organise public sensitisation and awareness activities on the right of access to information.
  • • Lead investigations on violations of the Access to Information Act provisions.
  • • Monitor Kenya’s compliance with international treaty obligations relating to freedom of information.
  • • Provide support and guidance to public entities and private bodies on implementing the Act.
  • • Plan the design and development of programmes to ensure effective records and information management systems.
