Job Description
The Department Manager leads the laboratory at Penda Health, providing technical expertise and ensuring quality across the entire testing pathway. Responsibilities include overseeing laboratory operations, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting team performance through coaching and training. The role also drives continuous improvement of processes and coordinates with medical centers to address staffing and operational needs. Collaboration with senior management ensures laboratory services align with national health standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Diploma in a relevant scientific field.
- • 2–4 years experience in laboratory management or senior technical roles.
- • Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems, biosafety and diagnostic workflows.
- • Proven ability to lead and coach technical teams.
- • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
- • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Provide technical expertise and advice on laboratory services, equipment, reagents and processes.
- • Ensure quality across the full testing pathway, from sample collection to result reporting.
- • Maintain compliance with KMLTTB and other regulatory and professional standards.
- • Identify and close compliance gaps, leading corrective actions.
- • Offer technical direction to laboratory teams and support consistent implementation of SOPs.
- • Identify capability gaps and work with HR and branch managers on staffing, performance and training.
- • Champion the Penda Way by modeling accountability and empowerment.
- • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective laboratory operations.
