Job Description
The Deputy Head Academic leads the academic programme for the Prep School, overseeing curriculum design, assessment and pupil progress from early years through Year 6. They collaborate with the Head of Prep and senior leaders to ensure high‑quality teaching and smooth transitions to Senior School. The role also provides professional leadership, data‑driven instructional improvement and capacity‑building for middle leaders.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • BA/BSc/HND or equivalent professional certificate
- • Minimum 2 years experience in educational leadership or teaching
- • Strong understanding of curriculum development, assessment and pedagogy
- • Excellent organisational, strategic planning and leadership skills
- • Ability to integrate digital technologies into teaching and learning
- • NPQH or relevant postgraduate qualification (preferred)

Responsibilities
- • Lead and manage day‑to‑day academic provision for the Prep School
- • Oversee curriculum design, assessment practices and pupil progress from Little Durham to Year 6
- • Promote clear progression and effective transition into Senior School
- • Provide professional leadership on academic matters, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning
- • Support middle leaders through professional learning and capacity building
- • Utilize data and assessment to drive instructional improvement
- • Foster collaboration with Head of Prep, Year Group Leads and Learning Enrichment Team
