Job Description

The Export Marketing & Sales Manager will establish and grow a tea export business, handling market development, buyer relationships, sourcing and compliance across the entire export value chain.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Bachelor's degree in Business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Agribusiness, Marketing, Economics or a related field
  • • Minimum 5 years relevant commercial/export experience, preferably in tea
  • • Proven experience in international trade and export transactions
  • • Strong practical knowledge of the Kenyan tea industry and Tea Board requirements
  • • Familiarity with export documentation, customs procedures and international shipping
  • • Experience working with clearing agents, freight forwarders and shipping lines
  • • Demonstrated ability to negotiate commercial contracts with international buyers
  • • Understanding of logistics from supplier to Port of Mombasa and onward shipment
  • • Experience with letters of credit, documentary collections and trade‑finance instruments
  • • Established network within Kenya’s tea‑export ecosystem

Responsibilities

  • • Develop and implement a commercial strategy for tea export aligned with the company’s business plan
  • • Identify and cultivate relationships with international tea buyers, importers, distributors and retailers
  • • Assess target markets, pricing, competition and entry requirements to build a robust buyer pipeline
  • • Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, volumes, payment conditions and contracts
  • • Convert qualified prospects into LOIs, purchase orders and recurring business
  • • Forge strategic partnerships with tea brokers, agents and distributors in key markets
  • • Provide regular sales‑pipeline and market reports to senior management
  • • Support directors in creating a reliable tea‑sourcing strategy and selecting quality suppliers
  • • Advise on tea grades, blending, packaging and customer‑specific specifications
  • • Coordinate with tea tasters to ensure product meets specifications
  • • Monitor tea pricing trends to maintain competitive export pricing
  • • Ensure compliance with Kenyan tea‑export regulations and maintain relationships with the Tea Board of Kenya
  • • Keep senior management informed of regulatory changes, licensing requirements and industry standards
