Job Description

The Food Technologist/Sales Engineer will expand B2B sales of specialty food ingredients across Kenya, targeting manufacturers in bakery, dairy, beverages and other processed‑food sectors. The role blends technical expertise—providing formulation support, product trials and presentations—with proactive business development to meet revenue and margin targets. The incumbent will also manage key accounts, monitor market trends and collaborate with ingredient suppliers to uncover new opportunities.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Applied Food Science, Food Science & Nutrition Technology, Chemistry or Biochemistry
  • • Diploma in Food Science or Food Technology with strong industry experience (acceptable for candidates with 5+ years sales experience)
  • • Minimum 4–5+ years B2B sales experience in food ingredients within Kenya
  • • Proven track record in sales and business development in the food manufacturing industry
  • • Experience with specialty food ingredients, customer trials, formulation support and technical presentations
  • • Strong commercial awareness, target‑driven mindset and willingness to travel extensively within Kenya
  • • Excellent communication, negotiation and account‑management skills

Responsibilities

  • • Develop and grow B2B sales of specialty food ingredients across Kenya
  • • Identify new business opportunities and expand the customer base
  • • Build and maintain strong relationships with food manufacturers and key decision‑makers
  • • Achieve agreed sales, revenue, margin and business‑development targets
  • • Understand customer requirements and recommend suitable ingredients and solutions
  • • Provide technical support on ingredient selection, formulation and processing applications
  • • Conduct technical presentations and product demonstrations
  • • Support customers in troubleshooting formulation challenges
  • • Coordinate and support customer product trials and ingredient testing
  • • Convert successful trials into commercial opportunities
  • • Manage key accounts and identify cross‑selling and upselling opportunities
  • • Monitor market trends, competitor activities and pricing
  • • Provide market feedback to management and suppliers
  • • Maintain effective relationships with ingredient suppliers and principals
  • • Develop and execute sales plans, maintain accurate records and prepare forecasts
  • • Track KPIs and report on sales performance and market development
