Job Description

The Graduate Quantity Surveyor will assist the surveying team in preparing cost estimates, budgets and tender documentation for construction and interior fit‑out projects. The role involves supporting procurement, contract administration and cost control activities while gaining exposure to project valuation and financial reporting. Working under senior staff, the graduate will conduct site measurements, identify cost‑saving opportunities and ensure accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognized institution.
  • • Recent graduate or up to two years of relevant experience.
  • • Registration as a Graduate Member with the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK) – preferred.
  • • Strong interest in construction and interior fit‑out projects.
  • • Basic understanding of quantity surveying principles and practices.
  • • Knowledge of construction materials and building technology.
  • • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and other Office applications.
  • • Familiarity with quantity surveying software – an advantage.
  • • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • • Ability to learn quickly and work under supervision.
  • • Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
  • • Positive attitude, integrity and willingness to develop professionally.

Responsibilities

  • • Prepare cost estimates for construction and interior fit‑out projects.
  • • Develop and monitor project budgets and cost trackers.
  • • Perform quantity take‑offs and measurements of works.
  • • Compile preliminary cost plans and cost comparisons.
  • • Analyse cost implications of project variations and maintenance works.
  • • Gather pricing information from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and tender documentation.
  • • Assist in evaluating tender quotations and preparing comparison reports.
  • • Support procurement tracking and supplier documentation management.
  • • Maintain contract records, draft variation orders and monitor contractual documentation.
  • • Monitor project expenditures, identify potential cost overruns and report findings.
  • • Prepare interim valuations, payment certificates and final account documentation.
  • • Conduct site visits for measurement, verification of completed works and progress monitoring.
  • • Identify cost‑saving opportunities and contribute to value‑engineering initiatives.
