Job Description
The Hatchery Officer will oversee all aspects of egg handling and chick production at Uzima Chicken, ensuring high hatchability and bio‑security standards. Responsibilities include managing incubation processes, monitoring equipment performance, and implementing disease‑control measures.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Animal Science or a related field
- • Strong communication, leadership and team‑management abilities
- • Ability to work in a fast‑paced production environment and meet operational targets
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Receive, inspect, grade, sort and store hatching eggs to meet quality standards
- • Maintain optimal temperature, humidity and ventilation during egg storage
- • Supervise egg setting, pre‑warming, transfer, candling and hatching procedures
- • Monitor incubation parameters and adjust settings for optimal hatch rates
- • Track hatchery machine performance and achieve production targets
- • Grade and select day‑old chicks, ensuring quality control
- • Analyse breakout data, identify causes of poor hatchability and recommend corrective actions
- • Implement and continuously improve bio‑security and quality‑control programmes
- • Manage vaccine storage, handling, thawing and administration procedures
- • Uphold high standards of hatchery hygiene and sanitation
