Job Description
The Head of the Chemicals Science and Policy Unit leads UNEP’s scientific analysis of chemicals, shaping policy recommendations and fostering innovative approaches to manage chemical pollution globally.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • BA/BSc or higher (MBA/MSc/MA preferred)
- • Minimum 10 years of experience in environmental science, policy, or related fields
- • Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning abilities
- • Strong analytical and reporting skills
- • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Define and lead UNEP’s scientific agenda on chemicals and pollution challenges
- • Collect, analyze, and prioritize scientific information to inform policy
- • Serve as a thought leader linking science with policy advice for chemicals agreements
- • Identify and champion innovative solutions, building partnerships with industry, academia, and governments
- • Engage with international policy processes such as the Intergovernmental Science Panel on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution
- • Provide strategic guidance and reporting to senior UNEP leadership
