Job Description
The Laboratory Technologist conducts specimen analysis and ensures timely, accurate results within an ISO 15189‑accredited environment. Duties involve screening blood for viral markers, performing quality control, managing reagents, and maintaining equipment. The technologist also supports training of staff, assists with patient phlebotomy, and promotes departmental services. Strong computer literacy and adherence to quality standards are critical.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • BA/BSc/HND in a science‑related discipline
- • Minimum 2 years experience in an ISO 15189‑accredited laboratory
- • Proficiency in laboratory quality control and equipment maintenance
- • Strong computer literacy and ability to use laboratory information systems
- • Good communication skills and ability to train junior staff
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Analyze patient specimens and deliver results within acceptable turnaround time
- • Screen blood samples for viral markers and report accurate findings to physicians
- • Monitor and manage reagent inventory to ensure adequate supplies and budget compliance
- • Perform quality control procedures to assess laboratory bias and performance
- • Report faulty equipment to maintenance for repair and ensure timely resolution
- • Track unit performance and communicate challenges promptly to maintain high‑quality results
- • Assist in training phlebotomists and student interns
- • Perform phlebotomy for patients and donors when required
- • Promote departmental services through marketing activities
- • Liaise with the Laboratory Manager on new procedures and emerging technologies
