Job Description

The Legal Compliance Officer ensures that the organization adheres to Kenyan laws and regulatory requirements across corporate, commercial and employment matters. Key duties involve monitoring legislative changes, drafting and reviewing contracts, conducting compliance audits, and providing legal advice to management. The officer also coordinates license renewals, liaises with external counsel and delivers compliance training to staff. A law degree and experience in legal compliance are required.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) or a related field.
  • • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in legal compliance, corporate legal affairs or regulatory compliance.
  • • Experience in the FMCG or manufacturing industry is an added advantage.
  • • Strong knowledge of Kenyan corporate, commercial, labor and regulatory laws.
  • • Excellent contract drafting, negotiation and legal research skills.

  • • Ensure compliance with all applicable Kenyan laws, regulations and statutory requirements.
  • • Monitor legislative changes and advise management on their impact.
  • • Draft, review, negotiate and maintain contracts, agreements and other legal documents.
  • • Provide legal advice on corporate, commercial, employment and regulatory matters.
  • • Develop, implement and monitor legal compliance policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • • Conduct periodic legal and compliance audits and recommend corrective actions.
  • • Maintain statutory records, legal documents and compliance registers.
  • • Coordinate timely renewal of licenses, permits and statutory certifications.
  • • Liaise with external legal counsel, regulatory authorities and government agencies.
  • • Support the company during regulatory inspections, audits, investigations and legal proceedings.
  • • Identify legal and compliance risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • • Conduct legal and compliance awareness training for employees.
  • • Prepare legal opinions, compliance reports and management updates.
  • • Ensure confidentiality of all legal documents and company information.
  • • Perform any other duties assigned by management.
