Job Description
The Legal Consultant will manage court case monitoring, provide survivor support, and liaise with prosecutors and investigative officers. They will ensure timely case progression, prepare survivors for testimony, and handle legal aspects of repatriation and strategic litigation. The role requires strong analytical abilities and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practising certificate
- • Demonstrated experience in criminal justice and court case management
- • Experience working on human trafficking, gender‑based violence, child protection or related cases
- • Experience liaising with prosecutors, investigating officers and other justice‑sector actors
- • Familiarity with repatriation processes and liaison with foreign missions/embassies (preferred)
- • Ability to comply with shelter security protocols and collaborate with shelter staff
- • Strong analytical skills

Responsibilities
- • Follow up on ongoing trafficking cases and monitor court progress
- • Maintain updated case status, including hearing dates, rulings and applications
- • Attend court proceedings and provide timely feedback to the organization
- • Identify delays or risks in case progression and recommend corrective actions
- • Prepare survivors for court appearances in a trauma‑informed manner
- • Explain court processes and ensure survivors understand their rights and responsibilities
- • Coordinate psychosocial and practical support with programme officers and caseworkers
- • Maintain confidentiality and uphold survivors’ dignity
- • Communicate regularly with prosecutors and investigating officers
- • Follow up on investigations, witness requirements, exhibits and hearing dates
- • Minimise avoidable postponements and manage unavoidable adjournments
- • Facilitate effective communication between the organization and justice‑sector stakeholders
- • Provide legal support for cases under investigation, including shelter‑referred cases
- • Advise on legal requirements for survivor repatriation and liaise with foreign missions
- • Continue case follow‑up after repatriation and coordinate with home‑country counterparts
- • Identify strategic litigation opportunities to advance survivors’ rights
