Job Description
The legal officer manages all litigation and arbitration matters related to digital lending and fintech operations, while providing regulatory guidance to senior management. They draft and review contracts, ensure compliance with Kenyan financial regulations, and respond to statutory notices. The role also supports risk mitigation for payments, remittance, and data protection issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or related field
- • Minimum 4–6 years of post‑qualification experience in fintech, digital lending, or financial services regulation
- • Admission to the Kenyan Bar and good standing (or equivalent qualification)
- • Strong knowledge of AML/CFT, data protection, and payment systems regulations

Responsibilities
- • Manage and oversee all litigation matters, including small claims, customer disputes, and employee issues
- • Represent the company in court and coordinate external counsel for specialized cases
- • Lead arbitration proceedings, preparing pleadings, evidence, and negotiating settlements
- • Respond to demand letters, statutory notices, and pre‑litigation correspondence
- • Provide legal advice on digital lending, payments, remittance, AML/CFT, and data protection regulations
- • Ensure compliance with Kenyan financial services laws and regulator requirements
- • Draft and review contracts, partnership agreements, and policy documents to mitigate legal risk
