Job Description

The Legal/Policy Adviser provides expert legal analysis and policy guidance to Amnesty International’s Secretariat and regional offices. The role conducts research, drafts policy documents and ensures that advocacy initiatives comply with international law. It also supports the organization’s strategic objectives through advisory services.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Law degree (LLB) or equivalent qualification, preferably with a focus on international or human‑rights law
  • • Demonstrated experience in legal research, policy analysis and drafting
  • • Strong understanding of international legal frameworks and humanitarian standards
  • • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment

Responsibilities

  • • Provide legal and policy advice and analysis to the International Secretariat and regional offices
  • • Conduct research on international human‑rights law and related policy areas
  • • Draft policy briefs, position papers and advisory memoranda
  • • Review contracts, agreements and advocacy materials for legal compliance
  • • Support advocacy campaigns by offering strategic legal input
  • • Monitor legislative developments and advise on potential impacts
