Job Description
The Legal/Policy Adviser provides expert analysis on international humanitarian and human rights law to support Amnesty International’s global advocacy. The adviser drafts policy papers, conducts research, and advises regional offices on complex legal issues related to armed conflict and accountability. They also monitor developments in international forums and help shape strategic advocacy initiatives. The position requires substantial expertise in humanitarian law and strong communication skills.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc/HND) in Law, International Relations or a related discipline.
- • Substantial expertise in international humanitarian law, international criminal law and human rights law.
- • Demonstrated experience in legal research, policy drafting and advocacy.
- • Strong advisory, communication and analytical skills.
- • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a global NGO environment.

Responsibilities
- • Provide legal and policy advice on international humanitarian law, human rights law and related issues to the Secretariat and regional offices.
- • Lead research, drafting, and advocacy activities for projects on international justice and criminal accountability.
- • Monitor developments in inter‑governmental organizations and national forums, identifying opportunities for proactive advocacy.
- • Support the design and delivery of training, policy guidance and standard‑setting initiatives.
- • Collaborate with programme teams to integrate legal analysis into broader advocacy strategies.
