Job Description
The Materials and Labor Specialist supports affordable housing initiatives by optimizing construction practices, reducing costs and building capacity among developers. They work with industry partners to promote innovative, low‑cost materials and labour solutions, and develop standards to improve construction quality for low‑income households.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • BA/BSc/HND or equivalent in a relevant field
- • Professional Certificate related to construction or materials management
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Support value‑engineering efforts to increase efficiency and reduce construction costs
- • Build capacity of developers and owner‑driven builders through training and knowledge sharing
- • Document and disseminate emerging construction practices for affordable housing
- • Catalyse market innovation for appropriate, affordable labour and material products
- • Engage with professional and training institutions to promote best practices
- • Develop a Housing Quality Standard guide for incremental housing
- • Collect, analyse and report data on construction materials and labour performance
- • Provide technical advice to internal teams on new shelter and labour interventions
- • Represent Habitat at industry gatherings and conferences
- • Liaise with partners and contribute to initiatives such as the Global Labour Initiative
