Job Description

The Network Operations Lead is responsible for designing, planning and deploying fibre networks while ensuring performance and reliability. They manage configuration of OLTs, ONUs/ONTs, routers and switches, supervise cable installations and maintain comprehensive network documentation. The role also monitors network health, leads fault response, and coordinates preventive maintenance and inventory management. Candidates should have a strong technical background in fibre optics and networking, as well as the ability to guide field teams.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Diploma or degree in Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, IT or a related field
  • • Minimum three years hands‑on experience with fibre optic systems at an ISP, telco or fibre contractor
  • • Practical experience with GPON/EPON OLTs (e.g., Huawei, ZTE, VSOL, BDCOM) and routers (MikroTik, Cisco, Juniper)
  • • Good knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing (OSPF/BGP), PPPoE/DHCP and RADIUS‑based subscriber management
  • • Ability to use an OTDR, power meter and fusion splicer and interpret fibre test results
  • • Willingness to perform field work and be on call for critical outages
  • • Additional advantage: coding or scripting (Python, Bash) for automation
  • • Experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix, LibreNMS, PRTG or Grafana
  • • Relevant certifications (MTCNA/MTCRE, CCNA, HCIA, CFOT)
  • • Experience with GIS or network mapping tools such as QGIS

Responsibilities

  • • Oversee the design, planning and rollout of fibre networks (FTTH/FTTx), including route surveys, splitter planning and power budgets
  • • Manage and configure OLTs, ONUs/ONTs, core and edge routers, and switches
  • • Supervise cable deployment (aerial and underground), splicing and termination, ensuring installations meet quality standards
  • • Monitor network performance, uptime and capacity, and act early on problems before they cause outages
  • • Lead fault response and outage resolution, find root causes, and write short incident reports
  • • Plan and run preventive maintenance schedules
  • • Supervise and coach field technicians and contractors
  • • Keep network documentation up to date: maps, IP plans, device configurations and fibre records
  • • Work with Sales on coverage feasibility and with Customer Care on escalated technical cases
  • • Manage network equipment inventory and help choose vendors and equipment
