Job Description
The Ophthalmic Nursing Officer provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing eye care services, supporting ophthalmologists and ensuring high‑quality clinical outcomes. The role includes patient assessment, procedure assistance, and health education within a hospital setting.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a Diploma in Nursing (registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya)
- • Higher National Diploma in Ophthalmology or equivalent specialised training
- • Valid nursing license and registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya
- • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in an ophthalmic or hospital setting
- • Strong communication and patient‑centred care skills
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Deliver direct nursing care to ophthalmology patients, including pre‑ and post‑procedure support
- • Assist ophthalmologists during examinations, surgeries, and laser treatments
- • Conduct patient assessments, document clinical observations, and update records
- • Educate patients on eye health, medication usage, and post‑operative care
- • Coordinate referrals and follow‑up appointments with the eye care team
- • Maintain sterile environments and ensure compliance with infection‑control protocols
