Job Description
The Phlebotomist will collect blood and other specimens during night shifts, ensuring rapid turnaround and high specimen quality for inpatient, outpatient, casualty and ICU departments. The role emphasizes patient‑centered care, strict adherence to ISO 15189:2022 pre‑analytical standards and effective communication with clinical teams. Responsibilities also include managing supplies, supporting quality‑improvement initiatives and maintaining safety protocols. This position contributes directly to improved laboratory efficiency and patient satisfaction.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc/HND) in a relevant health science field
- • Ability to perform venipuncture safely and accurately
- • Knowledge of ISO 15189:2022 pre‑analytical requirements
- • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Identify patients and perform venipuncture or other specimen collection across all hospital areas
- • Accurately label, handle, store and transport specimens according to SOPs
- • Prioritize urgent/STAT samples and report unsuitable specimens for recollection
- • Provide compassionate care to children, elderly, critically ill and difficult‑to‑bleed patients
- • Follow infection‑prevention, PPE and aseptic technique guidelines
- • Monitor phlebotomy supplies and report shortages promptly
- • Participate in quality‑improvement activities, audits and competency assessments
