Job Description
The Pig Extension Officer manages relationships with pig farmers to secure a reliable, cost‑effective supply of quality pigs. Responsibilities include monitoring farmer performance, analysing production data, and delivering technical advisory and capacity‑building programmes. The role combines field audits, data‑driven reporting and farmer development to optimise supply chain efficiency.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc/HND) in agriculture or related field
- • Minimum 3–5 years experience in pig production, farmer extension or livestock agronomy
- • Strong analytical skills and experience with data visualisation
- • Proven ability to build and maintain farmer relationships
- • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Track farmer key performance indicators such as mortality, average daily gain and slaughter weights
- • Segment farmers by performance and implement targeted improvement interventions
- • Conduct regular farm audits and performance reviews, reporting findings to management
- • Build and maintain a farmer performance dashboard and forecast pig supply for up to six months
- • Analyse data to identify productivity bottlenecks and cost trends
- • Design and deliver training on nutrition, biosecurity, breeding, housing and animal welfare
- • Provide on‑site technical advisory and support to farmers
