Qualifications & Requirements

  • • BA/BSc/HND or equivalent qualification
  • • Strong knowledge of African regions and ability to work in hostile or challenging environments
  • • Outstanding communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • • Proven experience in planning, production or senior coordination roles within a fast‑paced newsroom
  • • Familiarity with newsroom safety protocols and planning workflows
  • • Ability to mentor, develop and retain talent

Responsibilities

  • • Coordinate field deployment of journalists and logistics for breaking‑news coverage
  • • Determine staffing levels that match the scope of coverage
  • • Work closely with staff and freelance photographers to maintain high editorial and visual standards
  • • Provide feedback, mentorship and talent development across the region
  • • Troubleshoot and mitigate staffing challenges during fast‑moving news cycles
  • • Lead cross‑format planning for major news events and editorial initiatives
  • • Maintain accurate, accessible coverage calendars using planning tools
  • • Communicate with clients in real time regarding coverage as required
  • • Collaborate with commercial and product teams to improve newsroom planning systems and workflows
  • • Work with the Editorial Safety Team to ensure safe operations
  • • Manage deployment budgets and control costs efficiently
  • • Anticipate coverage needs and position resources ahead of developing stories
