Job Description
The Senior BESS Requirements Engineer defines and manages technical requirements for utility‑scale battery energy storage projects, focusing on EMS, SCADA, control and power conversion systems. They ensure requirements are traceable, compliant with standards, and integrated across multidisciplinary teams. The role also conducts risk assessments and supports certification reviews.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Controls Engineering or a related technical field
- • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience, preferably with utility‑scale BESS or similar power/energy systems
- • Strong experience developing and managing engineering or system requirements
- • Knowledge of EMS, SCADA, control systems and PCS/inverter systems
- • Understanding of utility‑scale power systems, grid‑connected equipment, protection and electrical interfaces
- • Familiarity with industrial networks and utility communication protocols
- • Experience with technical compliance, certification or regulatory requirements
- • Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Develop and maintain technical requirements for BESS, EMS, SCADA, control systems and PCS
- • Review project‑specific requirements and identify gaps, conflicts and compliance risks
- • Define functional, system, interface, performance and cybersecurity requirements
- • Create reusable requirements templates and supporting documentation
- • Maintain requirements traceability, revision history and change control throughout the project lifecycle
- • Review applicable industry standards and translate them into engineering requirements
- • Support technical reviews related to product compliance and certification
- • Review schematics, wiring diagrams, system architecture and interface documents
- • Perform technical risk assessments and recommend mitigation actions
- • Coordinate requirements across controls, electrical, software, systems and project engineering teams
- • Utilize modern engineering and AI‑assisted tools to support requirements development and review
