Job Description
The Senior Journalist will lead the creation and delivery of news content for BBC Amharic across digital, video, audio and social platforms. Working with the Assistant Editor and regional teams, the role drives the service’s digital transformation while maintaining the BBC’s editorial standards. The journalist will commission, produce and edit stories that are accurate, impartial and engaging for audiences in Ethiopia and the diaspora. Audience insights and analytics will be used to shape content strategy and grow reach.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field
- • Significant experience producing high‑quality multimedia journalism in fast‑paced newsrooms
- • Strong editorial judgement and ability to develop distinctive stories for target audiences
- • Proven experience creating digital‑first content, including video and social media
- • Ability to use audience analytics to guide content strategy and maximise reach
- • Proficiency with major digital platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and BBC digital products
- • Excellent communication, collaboration and adherence to editorial guidelines
- • Desirable experience reporting on Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa region
