Job Description
The Technical Lead Operator oversees the operation and maintenance of recycling machinery, ensuring high‑quality output while leading a team of operators. The role combines hands‑on machine operation with safety management, process optimisation, and continuous improvement of plant performance.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- • Proven experience operating recycling or industrial machinery, with at least three process steps requiring control of temperature, pressure, or speed
- • Understanding of industrial machinery processes, mechanical techniques, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)

Responsibilities
- • Operate and supervise recycling machinery such as balers, shredders, conveyors, and sorting equipment
- • Monitor equipment performance and intervene promptly on malfunctions or breakdowns
- • Conduct routine inspections and perform preventative maintenance tasks
- • Implement quality‑control measures and inspect incoming and outgoing materials for compliance
- • Troubleshoot equipment issues, coordinate repairs, and keep accurate maintenance records
- • Enforce safety protocols, conduct safety meetings, and investigate incidents
- • Communicate production metrics, equipment status, and issues to supervisors and other departments
- • Lead, train, and motivate a team of assistant operators to meet production targets
- • Develop production schedules in collaboration with plant management and adjust plans as needed
- • Analyse processes, implement control systems, and work with engineering on new equipment design
- • Generate innovative recycling ideas and conduct market research for untapped material streams
