Job Description

The driver operates waste collection trucks safely, follows assigned routes and schedules, and ensures proper handling and transport of waste to approved disposal sites. They perform daily vehicle inspections, report mechanical issues, and keep the truck clean and well‑maintained. Coordination with the collection crew and accurate record‑keeping of trips, fuel usage and incidents are essential. The role also requires courteous interaction with customers and strict adherence to traffic, environmental and safety regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Valid heavy commercial driving licence appropriate for the assigned vehicle.
  • • Minimum 6 years experience as a heavy commercial vehicle driver.
  • • At least 2 years experience driving waste collection trucks.
  • • Proven experience operating heavy‑duty trucks in urban or commercial environments.
  • • Good knowledge of Kenyan traffic rules and regulations.
  • • Clean and demonstrable driving record.
  • • Good knowledge of road safety and defensive driving practices.
  • • Experience with waste collection equipment and truck‑mounted hydraulic systems (advantage).
  • • Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and fault identification.

  • • Observe traffic, environmental, health, and workplace safety regulations.
  • • Practice defensive driving at all times.
  • • Report accidents, incidents, delays, or safety challenges promptly.
  • • Maintain a clean driving record.
  • • Coordinate with waste collection crew for smooth operations.
  • • Coordinate with collection team during loading and unloading activities.
  • • Ensure collection routes are completed within schedules.
  • • Report access challenges, missed collections, delays, or route issues.
  • • Maintain accurate records of trips and waste collections.
  • • Record fuel usage and vehicle information.
  • • Document accidents, incidents, breakdowns, and operational challenges.
  • • Provide timely reports to supervisor or operations team.
  • • Communicate professionally with customers and the public.
  • • Escalate customer complaints or service issues to supervisor.
