Job Description

The County Attorney serves as the principal legal adviser to the County Government, representing the County Executive in legal matters and providing counsel on legislation, contracts, and regulatory issues. The role requires a law degree, postgraduate diploma, and at least five years of advocacy experience, with a strong record of legal research and drafting. The position is remote and based in Nakuru, Kenya.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university
  • • Post‑graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law
  • • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Kenya
  • • Valid practicing license as an Advocate of the High Court
  • • Minimum ten years of overall legal experience, including at least five years as a High Court Advocate
  • • Strong knowledge of Kenyan law, constitutional provisions, and professional standards

Required Skills

Responsibilities

  • • Act as principal legal adviser to the County Government and its executive committee
  • • Attend County Executive Committee meetings as an ex‑officio member
  • • Represent the County Executive in court and other legal proceedings (excluding criminal cases)
  • • Advise County departments on legislative and legal matters
  • • Negotiate, draft, vet, and interpret documents and agreements for the County
  • • Lead revision and drafting of County laws and regulations
  • • Liaise with the Attorney General’s office when required
  • • Ensure compliance with constitutional and statutory provisions
