Job Description
The Head Gardener oversees garden and landscape maintenance at the lodge, managing nurseries, seasonal planting and water‑use systems while collaborating with the chef on farm‑to‑table initiatives. Responsibilities include supervising staff, ensuring organic practices and developing irrigation and rain‑water harvesting solutions. The role requires a diploma and 3–5 years of practical horticultural experience.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture or a related field
- • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant practical experience in garden or farm management
- • Strong leadership and team‑management abilities
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Oversee maintenance and development of gardens, lawns, planted areas and landscaped guest spaces
- • Maintain nurseries for propagation of plants, trees, herbs and crops
- • Develop seasonal planting plans and landscape improvement projects
- • Ensure use of organic fertilizers, pesticides and water management practices
- • Develop and implement the lodge’s farm‑to‑table production programme in coordination with the chef
- • Create and manage crop calendars, planting schedules and production forecasts
- • Design and maintain efficient irrigation systems and rain‑water harvesting solutions
- • Manage safe reuse of grey‑water within garden and farm areas
