Job Description
The Engineering Manager leads the engineering and maintenance function at the Kisii dairy plant, overseeing project planning, execution, and daily operations. He/she develops and implements strategies to maximise equipment reliability, availability and operational efficiency while managing the departmental budget. The role provides coaching and performance management to a multidisciplinary team of supervisors and engineers, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Collaboration with production and other departments ensures engineering services support business objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (professional registration advantageous).
- • Minimum 8 years progressive engineering experience in manufacturing, including at least 3 years in engineering leadership or management.
- • Proven experience in maintenance management, engineering project management, utilities management, asset reliability and continuous improvement.
- • Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance systems and engineering best practices.
- • Familiarity with statutory, environmental, health and safety, and food safety regulations.
- • Demonstrated technical competence, including experience with multiple programming languages.
- • Excellent problem‑solving, analytical and decision‑making abilities.

Responsibilities
- • Develop and implement engineering and maintenance strategy to ensure optimum plant reliability, equipment availability and operational efficiency.
- • Plan, direct and oversee all engineering, maintenance and utilities operations to support production and business objectives.
- • Lead planning, execution and monitoring of engineering projects, delivering within approved budgets, timelines and specifications.
- • Provide leadership, coaching and performance management to engineering team to promote high performance and continuous capability development.
- • Develop and monitor preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes to maximise reliability and minimise unplanned downtime.
- • Manage engineering departmental budget, monitor expenditure and drive cost optimisation.
- • Approve engineering material requisitions, spare parts, contractor engagements and procurement specifications to ensure timely resource availability.
- • Lead investigations into equipment failures and operational issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant efficiency, equipment reliability, energy utilisation, productivity and operational performance.
- • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, statutory requirements, environmental, health and safety regulations, food safety standards and company policies.
- • Manage engineering contractors, suppliers and service providers to ensure quality delivery, contractual compliance and value for money.
- • Monitor engineering performance through KPIs and prepare periodic operational, maintenance and project performance reports for management.
- • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, regulatory authorities and external partners.
- • Stay abreast of emerging engineering technologies, maintenance best practices and industry developments, recommending innovations.
- • Provide technical advice and guidance to management on engineering matters to support operational and strategic decision‑making.
- • Perform any other duties assigned by line manager.
