Job Description
The Shelter House Matron oversees daily operations of the residential shelter, ensuring a safe, structured environment while providing emotional support and safeguarding vulnerable residents.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Diploma or certificate in Social Work, Community Development, Counselling, Childcare, Health/Social Care, Hospitality Management or a related field.
- • At least 3–5 years of relevant experience working in residential care, shelters, children’s homes or similar environments.
- • Experience working with vulnerable individuals, survivors, children or women.
- • Understanding of safeguarding and child‑protection principles.
- • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
- • Ensure the shelter operates safely, smoothly and respectfully on a daily basis.
- • Maintain a structured and supportive residential environment and enforce house rules.
- • Coordinate household routines including meals, cleaning, laundry, activities and overall organization.
- • Promote a safe, dignified environment for all residents, especially children and vulnerable individuals.
- • Develop professional relationships with residents while maintaining clear boundaries.
- • Welcome new residents and orient them to routines, rules and available support.
- • Regularly check on residents’ wellbeing and identify concerns requiring professional attention.
- • Support residents in maintaining healthy daily routines.
- • Remain alert to safeguarding concerns such as abuse, exploitation or bullying and report them promptly.
- • Ensure appropriate supervision of children according to individual needs and approved arrangements.
- • Apply trauma‑informed principles in all interactions with residents.
