Job Description
The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Officer in delivering high‑quality water, sanitation, and hygiene programmes across the Tana River region. Responsibilities include supervising construction of WASH infrastructure, distributing hygiene kits, and promoting safe hygiene practices in emergency‑affected communities. The role requires strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work safely in challenging environments.
Qualifications & Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc/HND) or Diploma in a relevant field
- • Minimum 2 years of experience in WASH, humanitarian, or development programmes
- • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills
- • Ability to work flexibly in insecure or remote settings
- • High proficiency in written and spoken English
- fluency in Kiswahili or Somali is advantageous
- • Commitment to Save the Children’s mission and child‑focused approach
Required Skills
Responsibilities
- • Support the WASH Officer in designing and implementing WASH programmes
- • Supervise construction and rehabilitation of water points, tanks, and sanitation facilities
- • Coordinate distribution of non‑food items, water‑treatment chemicals, and hygiene kits
- • Conduct hygiene promotion sessions and community training
- • Monitor and evaluate project activities to ensure compliance with standards
- • Build capacity of local partners and facilitate integration with health, nutrition, and education sectors
